Lyndon Luk Appointed Chief of Abdominal Imaging

Lyndon Luk, MD, has been named chief of the Division of Abdominal Imaging for the Department of Radiology at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S). Luk is a board-certified radiologist specializing in abdominal imaging. His appointment is effective November 1, 2025.

In his new role, Luk will oversee a large group of subspecialized radiologists who serve sixteen hospital and outpatient imaging sites in Manhattan and Westchester, including Columbia and NewYork-Presbyterian’s newest state-of-the-art outpatient care facility in White Plains, NY.

“As one of our largest divisions, abdominal imaging plays a central role in advancing patient care, research, and education across our rapidly expanding department," said Ajay Gupta, MD, MS, James Picker Professor of Radiology and chair of the Department of Radiology. "I’m excited that Columbia Radiology will benefit from Dr. Luk’s collaborative leadership and vision, which will strengthen an already outstanding division and position it for even greater success in the years to come.”

An accomplished clinician, educator, and researcher, Luk has held multiple leadership positions in the Department of Radiology since he joined as faculty in 2018. As program director of the Abdominal Imaging Fellowship, a position Luk has held since 2019, he transformed the fellowship into one of the most innovative in the country, combining complex pathologies seen on multimodality imaging with clinical and surgical experiences to create an educational curriculum unique to each fellow. In 2023 he took on an additional role in the department as associate chair of patient access and has led efforts to increase access to imaging exams at Columbia through online scheduling and improved patient communication. A passionate educator, he has been recognized within the department numerous times for his lectures and mentorship, most recently by the radiology residents in 2024 as the Lecturer of the Year and Mentor of the Year.

Luk has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and frequently presents at a variety of national conferences. He is a member of the Pancreas Center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, leading imaging review for patients at one of the busiest pancreatic cancer and pancreatitis practices in the country. In 2021, he was recognized by the center with the Ruth Leff Siegel Award for Excellence in Pancreatic Cancer Research/Service.

With his multifaceted experience as a leader at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian, Luk is well-positioned to guide the abdominal imaging division—a team of 23 subspecialized radiologists—at an exciting time of development and growth at the Department of Radiology. “It is a privilege to have the opportunity to collaborate with a dedicated, supportive, and talented group of radiologists,” said Luk. "Together, we are committed to continuing the pursuit of optimal patient care, providing a comprehensive educational experience for our trainees, and leading the way in innovative and cutting edge research.”

Luk received his BS from New York University and his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He completed a Diagnostic Radiology Residency at CUIMC/NewYork-Presbyterian, where he served as chief resident, followed by an Abdominal Imaging Fellowship at New York University.
