Overview

Dr. Phillip Boiselle is a professor of radiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and an attending radiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He is a board-certified radiologist specializing in cardiothoracic imaging. Dr. Boiselle serves as vice chair of education and chief wellness officer for the Department of Radiology. He is also senior advisor to the vice dean for education at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Boiselle is internationally known as an expert in the field of thoracic imaging. His scholarship includes more than 250 research articles, review articles, editorials, book chapters and books. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and he was a site principal investigator for the National Lung Screening Trial. He has served as president of the Society of Thoracic Radiology, editor of the Journal of Thoracic Imaging, and he is a current member of the Fleishner Society. His many honors include being selected as a Rabkin Fellow in Medical Education in 2005, a program designed to cultivate future leaders in the field of medical education.

Dr. Boiselle is also widely recognized as an innovative educational leader. He served as dean of the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University from 2021 to 2025. Previously, he served as dean of the Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University, where he contributed to the development and expansion of the medical school’s signature wellness program. At Columbia, Dr. Boiselle oversees the Department of Radiology’s two ACGME residency programs, seven fellowship programs, medical student education, and continuing medical education programs. He also leads the department’s efforts to create a culture that supports a healthy and productive workforce by integrating wellness strategies.

After receiving his medical degree from Duke University, Dr. Boiselle completed a diagnostic radiology residency at Yale School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He has also completed the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Physician Leadership Development program, the Stanford Chief Wellness Officer program, and the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation.

Dr. Boiselle is the recipient of numerous awards for teaching, mentoring, and distinguished service, including the Robert E. Lenkinski Award for Excellence in Academic Radiology Mentoring and the Norman Joffe Award for Outstanding Clinical Mentoring in Radiology, among others.
