NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital Designated an ACR Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence with Distinction

Cortlandt Manor, NY — NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) Hudson Valley Hospital has been designated a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE) by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR designation, which represents patient-centric medical imaging care, is an achievement that goes beyond accreditation to recognize best-quality imaging practices and diagnostic care. Candidates undergo a comprehensive assessment of the entire medical imaging enterprise, including structure and outcomes.

DICOE with Distinction further distinguishes facilities that demonstrate elements of outstanding performance in some of the more advanced assessment domains. It also recognizes excellence at multiple levels — including the professional staff, technology, and policies and procedures the organization follows — as well as superior patient care.

“This designation reflects the strength of our partnership with NYP Hudson Valley Hospital and our commitment to delivering world-class imaging care to the communities where people live and work,” said Ajay Gupta, MD, MS, James Picker Professor of Radiology and Chair of the Department of Radiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Columbia’s Department of Radiology began providing comprehensive diagnostic and interventional radiology services to the hospital in 2022.

“Achieving Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence with Distinction speaks to the quality of the program at Hudson Valley Hospital. I am grateful for the leadership of Dr. Amichai Erdfarb, whose stewardship was essential to this achievement.”

Amichai Erdfarb, MD, Chief of Radiology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital

Erdfarb, an associate professor of radiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and chief of radiology at NYP Hudson Valley Hospital, oversaw the transition of care to Columbia Radiology, which has expanded access to diagnostic and interventional radiology care for patients in northern Westchester County and the surrounding area. Patients have also benefited from the expertise of Columbia’s fellowship-trained, board-certified radiologists.

“This recognition belongs to our entire imaging team – our technologists, nurses, and registrars – whose dedication and compassion define the high quality and patient centered care we provide every day,” said Daniel Wald, director of radiology at NYP Hudson Valley Hospital. “Achieving ACR DICOE with Distinction reflects a culture of excellence that prioritizes safety, access, and respect for our patients we serve. I could not be prouder.”

NYP Hudson Valley Hospital is the first Columbia/NewYork-Presbyterian location to receive this level of designation.

To achieve this elite distinction of Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence, facilities must be accredited by the ACR in all modalities they provide, and in which the ACR offers an accreditation program. They must also participate in ACR National Radiology Data Registries (NRDR), as well as Image Wisely and Image Gently—organizations dedicated to reducing radiation exposure for patients.
