Overview

Dr. Panagiotis (Panos) Sideras is a fellowship-trained neuroradiologist with a certificate of added qualification in neuroradiology. He is an assistant professor of radiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and an attending radiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He serves as program director for Columbia's Neuroradiology Fellowship.

Dr. Sideras has a specialized clinical and academic focus on spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak disorders and spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH). At Columbia, he spearheads a multidisciplinary CSF leak program dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with SIH, CSF-venous fistulas, meningeal diverticula, and other spinal CSF leak disorders. His practice emphasizes comprehensive patient evaluation, advanced imaging localization techniques, diagnostic stewardship, and minimally invasive image-guided therapies. He has particular expertise in CT myelography, dynamic and decubitus myelographic techniques, targeted epidural blood patching, fibrin sealant procedures, and the multidisciplinary management of complex CSF leak patients. He is actively involved in advancing contemporary imaging approaches and evidence-based care pathways for patients with suspected CSF leaks.

Dr. Sideras also specializes in advanced diagnostic and spinal non-vascular neuroradiology. His interests include CT-guided spine and sacral biopsies, kyphoplasty, head and neck biopsies, advanced neuro-oncologic imaging utilizing perfusion MRI and MR spectroscopy, and noninvasive cerebrovascular imaging.

A dedicated educator and mentor, Dr. Sideras is passionate about resident, fellow, and medical student education. As program director of the Neuroradiology Fellowship, he is actively involved in curriculum development, mentorship, and academic leadership. His research interests include spinal CSF leak imaging, spontaneous intracranial hypotension, advanced neuroimaging techniques, neuro-oncology, cerebrovascular imaging, quality improvement, and the integration of artificial intelligence into radiology practice.

After earning his medical degree from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, Dr. Sideras completed a PhD at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He subsequently completed an internship in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center, followed by residency training in diagnostic radiology through Rutgers New Jersey Medical School at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. He completed fellowship training in neuroradiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center before joining the faculty in the Department of Radiology at Columbia University.

Dr. Sideras has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and scientific abstracts and is an invited speaker at national and international meetings on neuroradiology and spinal CSF leak disorders. He serves as a peer reviewer for the American Journal of Neuroradiology (AJNR) and is a member of the Education and Standards Committee of the American Society of Spine Radiology (ASSR).

Dr. Sideras is a senior member of the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR) and holds memberships in the American College of Radiology, American Society of Spine Radiology, North American Spine Society, Radiological Society of North America, Eastern Neuroradiological Society, New York Roentgen Society, and American Roentgen Ray Society.
