Principal Investigators

The MRI Center in the Department of Radiology at the Columbia University Medical Center is one of three sites using magnetic resonance (MR) for research at Columbia University. Clinical and translational research are emphasized in the MRI Center, located in the Neurological Institute. The MRI Center is central to patient access from NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons of which Radiology is a part. While the MRI Center currently uses two Philips 1.5T and 3.0T systems and a 1.5T GE console, a three-year plan is underway to upgrade this center’s capabilities with five GE, 3T Premier systems, a GE, 3T MRI PET scanner and a 7T whole body system. GE’s Applied Science Lab East will also have laboratory space in the MRI Center to help expedite clinical translation and technology transfer directly from the research lab to the clinical market. The other two sites comprising Columbia’s MR Research program are the Neuroscience Imaging Laboratory at the Zuckerman Mind, Brain, Behavior Institute at Columbia’s new Manhattanville Campus and a newly planned MR Engineering and Physics Lab centered in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences on Columbia’s Morningside Campus. Radiology MRI investigators will have shared access to all three of these facilities
